Two vineyard entries in Weinstadt
The name Burghalde is used in Weinstadt in the growing region of Württemberg for two independent entries: Burghalde in Beutelsbach and Burghalde in Schnait. Both are classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE®.
Site and soil
The Burghalde in Beutelsbach is south-facing, lies at an elevation of 280 to 350 metres, and has a slope gradient of 30 to 60 percent. The Burghalde in Schnait is also south-exposed, lies at an elevation of 300 to 350 metres and has a specified slope gradient of 38 percent. For both entries, Bunter Mergel is given as the soil material.
Grape varieties and wines
For the Burghalde in Schnait, Spätburgunder and Riesling are listed as classified grape varieties. A documented wine from the Beutelsbach Burghalde is a dry Lemberger, marketed as a VDP.Ortswein and bottled unfiltered. From the Schnait Burghalde, a further dry Chardonnay is also documented.
Maturation
The Beutelsbach Lemberger was traditionally macerated with 60 percent whole berries, fermented spontaneously, matured for 24 months in used 300-litre barrels and bottled unfiltered. The Schnait Chardonnay fermented spontaneously and matured for ten months on the lees in a used 500-litre tonneau.
