Location and Climate
The hillside slope is a vineyard site in Kressbronn am Bodensee in the Württemberg Lake Constance wine-growing region. It lies on a sunny slope above the Lake Constance lakefront at around 420 metres above sea level. The Lake Constance has a temperature-balancing effect.
Soils and Vineyard Area
The soils are linked to deposits of ice-age moraines. They contain rounded gravel, lime-containing loam and other glacial material. The Kressbronn hillside slope comprises around 8 hectares.
Grape Varieties and Wines
Documented varieties grown at the site include Müller-Thurgau, Kerner, Weissburgunder, Riesling and Blauer Spätburgunder. The wines referred to as Berghalde include dry Müller-Thurgau, dry Grauburgunder Réserve, dry Pinot Noir Réserve and semi-dry Spätburgunder.
Cultivation and Maturation
A local producer specifies hand-harvesting and gentle processing of the grapes for his Berghalde vineyard. For his Berghalde wines, another local operation documents temperature-controlled fermentation vessels as well as mechanised equipment for pressing and bottling.
