Location and classification
Berg is an officially listed wine-growing site designation in the area of the Volkacher Mainschleife and belongs to the larger site of Kirchberg. The wine-growing site is recorded both in Escherndorf near Volkach and in Untereisenheim near Eisenheim. It lies on elevated ground above Escherndorf and comprises around 33 hectares.
Soils and grape varieties
The documented soils include loess marl, shell limestone and Lettenkeuper. For Berg, Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus are documented.
Wine style and origin regulations
Wines from Berg are produced that are fruit-forward and straightforward, especially from Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus. As the wine-growing site crosses municipal boundaries between Escherndorf and Untereisenheim, the Franconian origin rules apply to wines with the smaller geographical designation for single sites that extend across municipalities: they may contain at most 15 percent grapes from another municipality, and for sweetened products at most 25 percent.
