Location and categorisation
The Berg-Rondell is a vineyard site assigned to the municipalities of Dettelbach and Mainstockheim in the Franconian wine-growing region of Franconia. It lies within the Großlage Honigberg in the area of the Volkacher Mainschleife.
Topography and soils
The classified Dettelbacher Berg-Rondell is oriented from south-southeast to south-southwest, is situated at an altitude of 230 to 280 metres, and has a slope gradient of 20 to 50 percent. The site, described as a pronounced slope cut into by the river, consists of Upper Muschelkalk, loam and a marly weathering layer. The upper, loam-containing soil layers can store water; in addition, stony, skeletal components are found.
Grape varieties and wine style
For the Dettelbacher Berg-Rondell, Silvaner, Riesling, Spätburgunder, Scheurebe and Grauer Burgunder are classified. The wines from the plots there are described as mineral and precise, with a pronounced Muschelkalk character.
Designation and classification
The present-day designation Berg-Rondell developed, following the German wine law reform of 1971, from the former site Berg through the addition of Rondell. The VDP classifies the Dettelbacher Berg-Rondell as VDP.ERSTE LAGE® with a classified area of 45 hectares.
