Dettelbach is a town in the Kitzingen district in Bavaria and lies in the Franconian winegrowing region. The town is situated in the Main valley, where Dettelbach flows into the Main. In the west and north, steep Main slopes used for winegrowing shape the landscape; to the east, the terrain extends over gently rising Main terraces.

The officially listed vineyard sites include the Dettelbach Berg-Rondell and the Dettelbach Sonnenleite. Both are assigned to the Großlage Honigberg in the area of the Volkacher Mainschleife. The VDP lists 45.00 hectares for the Berg-Rondell and 29.18 hectares for the Sonnenleite as classified areas. For the Berg-Rondell, Silvaner, Riesling, Spätburgunder, Scheurebe and Grauer Burgunder are documented; for the Sonnenleite, Müller-Thurgau.
History of winegrowing
Dettelbach was first mentioned in documents in 741 and, in 1484, was granted town status as a place with market rights. The Thirty Years’ War caused considerable destruction and led to a documented decline in the area under vines as well as in the importance of winegrowing. A Dettelbach winery today documents wines from the local vineyards in Franconian dry and semi-dry styles, as well as white and red wines.
