Location and classification
Zeilitzheim is a municipal district of Kolitzheim in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt in Bavaria. The wine-growing region around the town belongs to the quality wine region Franconia and to the wine-growing area Volkacher Mainschleife.
Landscape and climate
The Zeilitzheim Heiligenberg hiking trail runs at elevations of about 209 to 262 metres. The regional climate is warm-continental, with warm summers, mild winters and around 600 millimetres of annual precipitation.
Soils and vineyards
For Zeilitzheim, shell limestone with loess is documented as the local soil condition. The vineyard sites include the Heiligenberg with 36 hectares, as well as the Kapellenberg. Both sites are listed in the area of the Volkacher Mainschleife and in the Großlage Kirchberg; the Kapellenberg also extends administratively to Gaibach in Volkach.
History
Zeilitzheim was first mentioned in writing in the 13th century. For the year 1631, it is handed down that good wine was produced there and that the grape harvest lasted until Christmas due to the conditions of war.
