Location and landscape
Walzbachtal is located in the Kraichgau, on the south-western edge of the Kraichgau hills. The municipality stretches out in the valley formed by the Walzbach. Characteristic features include the hilly relief and the valley floor shaped by the Walzbach.
Climate
The climate is mild, with moderately cold winters and warm summers. The annual precipitation amount is around 800 millimetres, and the solar irradiation is around 1,100 kWh/m². Predominant are south to south-west winds with 2 to 3 m/s.
Viticulture in Jöhlingen
In Jöhlingen there is the designated vineyard site Hasensprung. The wine-growing area is referred to as Baden, the region as Kraichgau, the locality as Jöhlingen and the single site as Hasensprung. Loess is a widespread soil-forming material in the Bretten Hills and thus also in the landscapes of Jöhlingen and Wössingen.
Hasensprung
As a result of land consolidation work in Jöhlingen from 1953 to 1975, land was made available for the Hasensprung vineyard site. In this small single site, Auxerrois is grown, which is processed mainly in the winery. The development regulations allow equipment sheds required for cultivation as well as observation platforms to protect against damage by starlings. Equipment sheds may have a maximum floor area of 16 m², must be single-storey and must blend unobtrusively into the landscape.
