Location and history
Undenheim is a municipality in Rheinhessen, a wine-growing region in Rhineland-Palatinate. Historical references have been documented since the year 767. Agriculture and viticulture shape the municipality’s character today.
The Undenheimer Goldberg
The single vineyard Undenheimer Goldberg is located in the Undenheim cadastral area, in the Nierstein area and within the Großlage Gutes Domtal. It covers 87 hectares, lies at an elevation of 155 to 180 metres and faces south.
Soils and climate
The Goldberg is characterised by deep, fertile, slightly loamy and calcareous soils. The documented soil type is loess-pararendzina; the soil contains silty clay, has good water-retention capacity, adequate ventilation and good conditions for root penetration. In Rheinhessen there are low rainfall levels, warm summers and mild winters. Western low mountain ranges provide climatic protection for the wine-growing region.
Wine character
The Undenheimer Goldberg is described as a wine-growing site with high yields. The regional site profile links the wines with aromas of yellow fruit, apple, peach, pear and citrus fruits, as well as with moderate acidity, medium structure and an early-to-access style.
