Location and landscape
Sinzheim is a municipality in the district of Rastatt in Baden-Württemberg and borders directly on Baden-Baden. The municipal area extends from the Upper Rhine plain via the loess-covered peripheral hills of the Black Forest foothills zone to the outliers of the Northern Black Forest. The elevation ranges from approximately 119 to 525 metres above sea level.
Relief and climate
In the map, the transition from the foothills to the Rhine plain can be recognised. The plain comprises flat terrain, old watercourses, remnants of terraces and lower-lying depressions. Cold air, mist and early and late frosts can collect there more frequently. In the Rhine plain, the average temperatures for the year are around 9 to 10 °C; the growing season lasts on average about 188 days.
Vine-growing
Sinzheim belongs to the wine-growing towns of the Ortenau wine region, which extends along the western Black Forest from the Rastatt area to the south. A signposted wine education trail leads through the vineyards and provides information about grape varieties and their characteristics. Sinzheim is also located in the protected German wine-growing region Baden.
Historical reference
The monastery estate Fremersberg in the Sinzheim area is located at a site where a Franciscan monastery has been established since 1411. The monastery was dissolved in 1803.
