Location and Geography
Prappach is a district of Haßfurt in the Haßberge district in Lower Franconia, Bavaria. The place lies at about 268 metres above sea level on the edge of the Haßberge. The historic settlement developed on a slight rise near the Sterzelbach crossing.
Viticulture and History
Prappach is a wine town in Franconia and is assigned to the Abbot-Degen wine valley. Viticulture has been documented here since 1151; the vineyard Henneberg is already mentioned in a historical source in 1366. Its name is connected with the Counts of Henneberg, who held historical rights and offices in the Haßfurt area.
Henneberg Vineyard
The Prappach Henneberg site comprises 1.17 hectares and has Keuper soil. Documented varieties include, among others, Bacchus, Grüner Silvaner, Kerner, Müller-Thurgau, Blauer Portugieser, Blauer Spätburgunder, Domina and Regent, as well as mixed vine plantings. A Prappach Henneberg Silvaner is described as a dry white wine with a fresh, balanced and lightly sparkling style, moderate acidity and subtle fruit and occasional mineral notes.
