Location on the Nahe
Oberhausen an der Nahe is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate and belongs to the Rüdesheim collective municipality. It is located on the Nahe at the foot of the Lemberg, which, at around 400 metres, is described as the highest mountain of the middle Nahe region.
Vine Growing and Vineyards
The municipality belongs to the legally defined wine-growing region Nahe, Nahetal and Großlage Burgweg. The vineyard Brücke is located on the valley floor by the river. There, night-time outflows of cold air into the valley lead to a slower development of the grapes than on the steep hillside vineyards. Documented Rieslings from the site include fine-fruited late harvests and Auslesen with residual sweetness and pronounced natural acidity.
The Leistenberg
The Leistenberg lies in a side valley of the Nahe, is oriented to the south-east and has a slope of 30 to 40 per cent at about 140 to 180 metres in elevation. The soil consists of grey, carbon-containing weathered slate with clay loam. The site is planted exclusively with Riesling; a documented wine is a fine-fruited, fruit-sweet Riesling Kabinett.
History
Oberhausen an der Nahe is described as a wine town with more than 1,000 years of history. The Luitpold Bridge, built in 1889 over the Nahe, connected the formerly Bavarian village with the opposite bank, historically linked to Prussia. Quarrying on the Lemberg was of importance for Oberhausen and the neighbouring municipalities; from 1930, the extracted rock was transported into the valley and to the railway line between Oberhausen and Niederhausen by cable railway.
