Location and Landscape
Brücke is a vineyard site in Oberhausen an der Nahe in the Nahe wine-growing region. It lies directly on the Nahe and is named after the nearby Luitpold Bridge, which connects the vineyard on the Niederhäuser side with Oberhausen.
The sheltered position is oriented to the south to south-southwest, lies at an altitude of 125 to 130 metres, and slopes down to the Nahe by up to 15 percent. The subsoil consists of weathered grey slate and/or calcareous clay slate, which is overlaid by loess clay.
Climate
At this site, the Nahe provides a mild, balancing microclimate with regularly early budburst and a long growing season. At the same time, the cool nights and the cooler daytime conditions compared with steep hillside sites lead to slower ripening and to the preservation of the natural acidity.
Vines and Cultivation
Brücke is classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE®; Riesling is the associated grape variety. The VDP-classified area comprises 1.10 hectares and is farmed by H. Dönnhoff. Hermann Dönnhoff acquired the vineyard, which is about one hectare in size, in 1931. The property was subsequently recorded and protected as a Dönnhoff monopole vineyard.
Wines
For Brücke, Riesling Spätlese, Riesling Auslese and Riesling Eiswein are documented. The Dönnhoff Spätlese is described as finely fruity. For the Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Spätlese of the 2025 vintage, vines aged 25 to 55 years, a yield of about 40 hectolitres per hectare, selective hand harvesting, as well as fermentation and ageing in stainless steel are documented. The VDP designation for the site has not yet been approved as an official wine-growing site designation under German wine law.
