Location and affiliation
Neuses am Berg is a district of Dettelbach in Bavaria and has belonged to Dettelbach since the administrative reform of 1978. The settlement lies elevated above the Main and offers a view of the Volkacher Mainschleife. This is shaped by a Main valley cut into the Upper Muschelkalk; at the higher edge areas, Keuper rock formations have been preserved.
Vine-growing on Langenberg
As a Franconian wine village, Neuses am Berg is associated with vineyards in the cadastral district. The wine-growing landscape is at the beginning of the Volkacher Mainschleife in connection with the Langenberg. The single-vineyard Glatzen is assigned to Dettelbach-Neuses am Berg in the area of the Volkacher Mainschleife and to the Großlage Kirchberg.
The Glatzen vineyard is predominantly oriented to the east, partly to the north-east, and has slope gradients of about 30 to 60 percent. In 2004, the site covered approximately 70 hectares; in 1993, about 80 hectares were given. Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner are documented as frequently cultivated grape varieties. A documented wine from the site is a dry Silvaner Qualitätswein.
History and wine-growing tradition
Neuses was first mentioned in a document in 1340. Wine-growing is part of the town’s historical identity and is represented by the wine-growing association Neuses am Berg. The name Glatzen was created in 1971 through the merging of 15 former local vineyard names into a single-vineyard.
