Location and landscape
Laubenheim lies on the Nahe in the Nahe wine-growing region. The houses are located at the foot of the vineyard slopes, as the Nahe valley offers only little level settlement space. From the slopes, the view extends across the Nahe valley towards Rheinhessen, Bingen, Rüdesheim and the Taunus.
Climate and geology
The municipality describes the climate as mild. The sheltered valley slopes of the lower Nahe are considered sunny and dry areas and promote viticulture. The area originated from an earlier sea basin of the Mainz Basin; later geological and climatic changes shaped the landscape.
Viticulture
In the Nahe wine-growing region, Laubenheim belongs to the Nahetal area and the Großlage Schlosskapelle. The wine sites directory lists seven individual sites. The area under vine is roughly 75 percent planted with white and 25 percent with red grape varieties. Riesling is the leading variety at about 40 hectares, followed by Silvaner with about 10 hectares.
Laubenheimer Karthäuser
The Laubenheimer Karthäuser site has a south to south-easterly aspect, an elevation of about 160 to 220 metres and a slope gradient of approximately 10 to 35 percent. Its soils consist of sandy terrace sediments with rubble and conglomerates from Permian Rotliegend formations. Riesling is listed as the classified grape variety.
