Location and classification
Junker is a legally registered single vineyard in the municipality and in the wine-growing region of Laubenheim an der Nahe. The site is listed by the Chamber of Agriculture of Rhineland-Palatinate as wine-growing site number 510327 in the Nahetal area and within the collective vineyard Schlosskapelle. Laubenheim lies on the west-facing slope of the Nahe; the vineyards are spread over the slopes above the town and towards the Nahetal. Area and climate
The officially recorded vineyard area of the single vineyard Junker comprised a total of 11.1 hectares in the 2024 vineyard register. Laubenheim is described as a place with a mild climate. The wind-protected valley slopes of the lower Nahe are considered suitable for viticulture.
Soil
The subsoil of Laubenheimer Junker consists of Quaternary loess and loess loam. The soil is described as a Pararendzina-Rigosol with deep, calcareous and silty material, a large rooting depth as well as good water retention. The profile belongs to the loess-covered vineyard landscapes of the Nahe between Bad Kreuznach, Bretzenheim, Langenlonsheim, Laubenheim and Münster-Sarmsheim.
Grape varieties and wine style
In the vineyards of Laubenheim, around 75 percent of the vineyard area is taken up by white and around 25 percent by red grape varieties. Riesling is the most widely represented, followed by Silvaner. The wines of Laubenheimer Junker are associated with ripe yellow-fruit aromas such as apple, pear and mirabelle, possible savoury notes, moderate and rounded fruit acidity and a comparatively full-bodied profile. They develop harmony early on and, according to the geological description, are rather intended for an earlier drinking time.
