Location in the Kocher valley
Künzelsau is the district town of the Hohenlohe district in the north-east of Baden-Württemberg and lies directly in the Kocher valley. The associated districts are located both in the valley and on the surrounding high plateaus. Künzelsau belongs to the region Württemberg.
Vine growing in Belsenberg
In the district of Belsenberg there are vineyards on slopes facing south. Vine growing there has been documented for a long time. The vineyard designation Belsenberger Heilig Kreuz goes back to a pilgrimage chapel from the 15th century, the remains of which are recorded near the Siegelhof. Between about 1500 and 1700, vine growing was carried out on a larger scale in Künzelsau.
High hill near Ingelfingen
The Ingelfinger Hohe Berg lies between Ingelfingen and Criesbach and therefore not in the actual built-up area of Künzelsau. The south-east-facing vineyard site in the Kocher valley shows a height difference of about 80 metres along the wine education trail. The soils consist mostly of Rigosols with calcareous infill material formed from Muschelkalk. Documented there include, among other things, dry Riesling, dry Schwarzriesling, Spätburgunder matured in wooden casks, and Merlot ripened in barriques. For a Spätburgunder, the grapes were picked by hand and selected before processing.
