Location and wine-growing region
Heilig Kreuz is a vineyard designation in Belsenberg, a district of Künzelsau in the wine-growing region Württemberg. The vineyards of Belsenberg belong to the Kochertal wine-growing region and are located on south-facing slopes.
Historic wine-growing
The vineyards of Belsenberg have already been recorded in a Hohenlohe princely account dated to the year 1356. Historically, the highest elevations and steepest slopes were cultivated. Working in the vineyard was considered labor-intensive, with stony soils being converted into high-yielding vineyards.
Press house and wine trade
The historic press house next to the church was built around 1550 and was extended in 1750. A large Hohenlohe-Langenburg tithing press was erected in 1731. In the vaulted cellars, spring water provided cooling for the wine stored there; under the former schoolhouse, wine was kept in large wooden casks until the 1970s.
Wines under the designation
Under the designation “Belsenberger Heilig Kreuz”, Silvaner, Schiller, Acolon and Spätburgunder are documented. The range includes a Silvaner quality wine, a Schiller, an Acolon Spätlese and a dry Spätburgunder.
