Location and landscape
Ingersheim is located in the Ludwigsburg district in Baden-Württemberg and borders the Neckar to the east. The municipality extends from the Neckar floodplains and the lower vineyard slopes up to the plateau of the Langen Feld. Elevations range from about 177 to 310 metres above sea level.
Soils and vineyards
Between the loess-covered high plateaus and the lower-lying Neckar floodplain there are steep slopes with traditionally farmed terraces around Großingersheim and Kleiningersheim. In the Neckar valley, Muschelkalk formations and terraced vineyard soils shape the landscape. In the area of the Schloßberg, calcareous sinter terraces and restored dry-stone walls are also documented; the walls belong to a protected biotope.
Winegrowing
Winegrowing areas are distributed, among other places, across the Schloßberg, the newly arranged Wurmberg and the Kallenberg towards Hessigheim. The Felsengartenkellerei Besigheim provides information for Ingersheim on around 3,400 ares of vineyard area and 60 participating Ingersheim producers. The most important grape varieties include Trollinger, Lemberger, Riesling and Spätburgunder. In addition, Schwarzriesling, Silvaner, Cabernet Dorio, Samtrot, Grauburgunder and Chardonnay are cultivated.
History
Großingersheim was first mentioned in the year 779 as “Ingiheresheim”. Farming, winegrowing and fishing shaped the most important sources of income up until the 20th century. Großingersheim and Kleiningersheim were united into the municipality of Ingersheim on 1 January 1972. The Schloßberg is also designated as a Württemberger single site.
