Location and classification
Felsengarten is a named single vineyard site in the wine-growing region around Neckar and Enz in Württemberg. The single vineyard site is documented within the Großlage Schalkstein. The Hessigheimer Felsengärten lie as a nature reserve with steep shell limestone formations in the surrounding vineyards above the Neckar.
Terraces and soils
The vineyard landscape consists of terraced steep slopes along the Neckar and Enz. Shell limestone shapes the characteristic rock and the documented vineyard soil. The steep slopes have a warm microclimate; rock and dry-stone walls can store solar heat.
Cultivation and grape varieties
Cultivation of the steep slopes is carried out exclusively by hand. For a wine from the terraced slopes, Trollinger and Lemberger are documented together.
Wine and reference to the name
The documented Trollinger–Lemberger is a Württemberg quality wine with a violet-red colour, an youthful aroma, mild acidity and harmonious sweetness. The Felsengarten winery received its name from the shell limestone rocks of the Felsengärten; its cellar building was erected in 1976 at the foot of these named Felsengärten. The wine-growing site belongs to the wine-growing region Württemberg.
