Güglingen

Location and landscape

Güglingen is located in the Zabergäu, around 20 kilometres west of Heilbronn. The town includes the districts of Eibensbach and Frauenzimmern. The town centre lies on the northern slope of the Zaber; the municipal area also includes parts on the northern edge of the Stromberg and in the Zaber valley.

The sheltered, mild location between the Stromberg and Heuchelberg promotes fruit growing and viticulture. The landscape is shaped by valley slopes and, in part, steep vineyard sites that are frequently oriented towards the south. In the south, Gipskeuper, Bunte Mergel and Stubensandstein occur; the vineyard soils are in part steep, calcareous Keuper soils.

Viticulture in Güglingen

In the Güglingen area, viticulture has been carried out for more than 1,200 years. The town belongs to the quality wine-growing region Württemberg; the local vineyard sites are assigned to the regional wine-growing classification of the Großlage Heuchelberg.

The local winemakers came together on a cooperative basis from 1951 and today operate as the winemakers Cleebronn-Güglingen. Among the grape varieties grown there are, among others, Lemberger, Trollinger, Spätburgunder, Schwarzriesling, Samtrot, Riesling as well as Grau- and Weißburgunder.
