Location and Geography
The Güglinger Kaiserberg is a vineyard site in Güglingen in the wine-growing region Württemberg. The vineyards lie at an altitude of 230 to 280 metres and have slope gradients of 10 to 50 per cent. The slopes are partly steep and are almost exclusively oriented to the south.
Climate and Soil
The mild climate in Güglingen is attributed to the sheltered location between the elevations Heuchelberg and Stromberg. The soil consists of Gipskeuper and is described locally as partly stony, calcareous Keuper soil.
Grape Varieties and Wines
The VDP lists Trollinger as a classified grape variety for the Güglinger Kaiserberg. Local descriptions also mention Lemberger and Trollinger–Lemberger blends. Documented wines include distinctive, full-bodied Lemberger as well as savoury Trollinger with Lemberger, standing for substantial red wines.
Classification and Winegrowing
The classified area comprises, according to the VDP, 43.00 hectares. Wachtstetter works as a VDP winery on the site. The Güglinger Kaiserberg is classified in the wine-growing region Württemberg as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®. In the Güglingen region, wine has been grown for more than 1,200 years.
