Location and village layout
Bimbach is a district of Prichsenstadt in the Kitzingen district, Bavaria, and lies in Franconia. The village is situated at about 266 metres above sea level in the Schwarzachtal valley. The village church stands on a steep valley slope, with the palace opposite it.
History and sights
Bimbach was first mentioned in 1237 under the historical name forms “Bunebach” or “Binebah”. The present-day settlement is considered to be older and was probably founded in the eighth century. The castle complex was destroyed in 1525 during the German Peasants’ War; the present-day two-winged late Baroque complex was created mainly between 1700 and 1703 by the Fuchs family of Bimbach. About 500 metres east of the village centre, on a ridge above the Schwarzachtal valley, there is a Celtic rectangular hillfort.
Viticulture
The Bimbacher Schloßgarten site is listed as GEO 47 in the Franconian winegrowing sites directory and extends across the municipal areas of Prichsenstadt and Oberschwarzach. When using it, the place name Prichsenstadt must be stated. Documented wines from the site are produced from Silvaner and Riesling, including dry Silvaner as Qualitätswein and Kabinett.
Cellars
The winery operated in Bimbach documents the development of the wines in the historic castle cellar, as well as the use of contemporary and environmentally conscious cellar technologies.
