Location on the Moselle
Senheim-Senhals is a municipality on the Moselle. The Senhals district lies on the left bank of the Moselle and is connected to Senheim by a road bridge. Senheim is located in the Moselle valley and is surrounded by steep slopes of vineyards.
Winegrowing and soils
Senheim belongs to the legally defined German Qualitätsweinbaugebiet Mosel. In the surroundings of the vineyards, influences from the Hunsrück and the Eifel as well as slate soils are described. The legally documented vineyard site Senheimer Lay is defined by the cadastre area In der Lay.
Historical development
Senheim was first mentioned in a document in 1140; Senhals already in 1067. A major fire destroyed in Senheim on 13 August 1839 106 houses, 22 wine-press buildings and seven barns. Afterwards, the village was rebuilt again according to a planned grid.
Bridge and harbour
The current Moselle bridge and the harbour of Senheim were built between 1965 and 1967.
