Location and classification
Bienengarten is an officially registered single vineyard in Senheim in the Mosel winegrowing region and in the district of Burg Cochem. The site belongs to the collective vineyard Rosenhang and comprises, in the cadastral district of Senheim, an officially recorded vineyard area of 1.2 hectares.
Topography and soil
Bienengarten is described as a very steep vineyard site. The soil consists of almost completely weathered, light-coloured slate claystone.
Grape varieties and cultivation
In Bienengarten, Riesling is grown. For a steep parcel that had previously lain fallow, Spätburgunder and Sauvignon Blanc are also documented. The cultivation includes the traditional cane pruning and hand harvest. A replanting project that began in 2014 was intended to restore the fallow parcel and preserve the vineyard landscape.
Wine styles and history
Documented Bienengarten Rieslings are available dry, off-dry, sweet and as Spätlese. A Riesling from the 2023 vintage was bottled as Qualitätswein bestimmter Anbaugebiete and as a dry wine; before fermentation, there was a two-day skin contact, and no enrichment was carried out. A Riesling Spätlese from the 2025 bottling was described as sweet, fresh, mineral and fruit-forward, and has 8.0% alcohol, 60.2 g/l residual sugar and 6.4 g/l acidity. The historical name of the site was Senheimer Schwarzenberg auf Zinnenstegel. The current name is associated with the Moselle Franconian word Binnen, in the sense of inner or inside.
