Location and history
Jean-Claude Ramonet is based in Chassagne-Montrachet in Burgundy. The estate was founded in the late 1920s by Pierre Ramonet and is run in the third generation by his grandsons Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet.
Vineyard areas and wine style
The estate cultivates 17 hectares of vineyard land in Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Bouzeron and Pernand-Vergelesses. Production consists of around 70 percent white wine and 30 percent red wine. The portfolio also includes Bourgogne Aligoté.
Cultivation and ageing
The vineyards are managed using careful crop protection, tillage and controlled yields. The harvest is carried out by hand. Following a traditional vinification, depending on the appellation, the wine is aged for 12 to 18 months in oak barrels.
Individual sites
The documented Montrachet parcel covers 0.26 hectares and is oriented to the east and south. Its soils are limestone and reddish marl. Part of the site Les Ruchottes comes from 1934, when Pierre Ramonet acquired it. For white wines of the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc are used; Pinot Noir is the most important red grape variety, complemented by the permitted secondary varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.
