Location and vineyards
Jean-Jacques Confuron is based in Les Vignottes in Prémeaux-Prissey in the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. The roughly nine hectares of vineyard are spread from Corgoloin to Chambolle-Musigny. The estate also includes a plot in the upper slope area of the Clos de Vougeot.
Cultivation and grape varieties
The vineyards have been farmed organically since 1989. Some small plots are worked with horses; since 1990 natural products have been used in the vineyards. The soils of the Côte de Nuits are described as limestone and red silt, with the sites in Corgoloin and Chambolle-Musigny as stony. Pinot Noir is the most important grape variety; in addition, Bourgogne Aligoté and a white Côte de Nuits-Villages, „La Montagne“.
Wines and cellar work
The range comprises, with the exception of Bourgogne Aligoté and Côte de Nuits-Villages Blanc „La Montagne“, red wines and includes, among others, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru as well as the Grand Crus Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The red wines are described as fruit-forward, rounded and juicy, with silky, velvety tannins.
Alain Meunier and Sophie Confuron have run the Domaine since 1988; Sophie studied viticulture at the Lycée viticole de Beaune. Their son Louis Meunier has been responsible for the vinifications since 2020. The grapes are hand-picked, sorted and destemmed without crushing. After a four- to six-day pre-fermentation maceration, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place; the wines then mature, depending on the vintage, for about 15 to 18 months in new and used wooden casks.
