Location and History
Champagne Louis Nicaise is located at Place de la République 11 in Hautvillers in the Champagne, specifically in the Vallée de la Marne. Lucien Nicaise founded the family estate there in 1928 and initially produced Champagne under his own name. In 2012, Laure Nicaise, the fourth generation, took over the management.
Vineyards and Soils
The estate comprises around 9 to 9.12 hectares of vineyard land, distributed across parcels in the Premier Cru location of Hautvillers. Cultivation takes place parcel by parcel using biological methods. The vineyards are planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. For the Brut Réserve, clay and limestone soils are described, over chalk containing belemnites.
Champagne and Cellar Work
The winery produces sparkling wines from the Champagne, including a non-vintage Premier Cru Brut Réserve and a rosé made from the three Champagne grape varieties. Laure Nicaise introduced vinification in wood.
Brut Réserve
The Brut Réserve cuvée consists of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier. The blend includes 65% reserve wines; the dosage is 7 g/l.
