Location and History
Bernard Boisson-Vadot was based in Meursault in Burgundy, France. The estate has been documented since 1954 and, at around 5.2 hectares, remained a small, well-structured operation. Over several generations, it was expanded.
Family Transfer
Bernard Boisson gradually passed responsibility on to his children Anne and Pierre. They produced wines under their own labels; a 2017 report states that the Bernard Boisson-Vadot label subsequently disappeared.
Vineyards and Wines
The vineyard parcels were located mainly in Meursault. Further holdings or wines were associated with Auxey-Duresses, Monthélie, Pommard and Beaune. Chardonnay, Aligoté and Pinot Noir were grown. Bourgogne Aligoté and still white Meursault wines are documented, including Les Chevalières and Les Grands Charrons. The additional family estate also produced red wines from Bourgogne, Auxey-Duresses and Monthélie based on Pinot Noir.
Vineyard and Cellar Work
Conventional farming is described, without chemical soil improvers, regular hand work and ploughing of the soils. The wines were fermented using indigenous yeasts and racked into barrel with little or no pre-clarification of the lees. All wines, including Aligoté and straightforward Bourgogne, matured in barrel with limited use of new barrels, long ageing on the fine lees and gentle Bâtonnage. The Meursault Les Chevalières 2007 matured for 21 months, 40 percent of which in new barrels.
