Location and landscape
The Wilhelmsberg is a named vineyard site near Nußloch in Baden and lies on the border with Wiesloch. Historical vineyard plots extended over the western slopes, including partly steep sections. The Nußloch winegrowing area is described as being oriented favourably towards the south-west. The Wilhelmsberg is documented as a hill with an elevation of about 204 metres.
Viticulture and development
Viticulture in Nußloch has been documented since a bequest from 766. In the 19th century, the western Wilhelmsberg slopes belonged to extensive vineyard areas. A large part of the historic vineyard area has now disappeared from the landscape; the remaining vineyard plots are documented in the Wilhelmsberg area at the transition to Wiesloch.
Current cultivation on the Nußloch Wilhelmsberg is carried out in an ecological and sustainable manner. Soil care, fertilisation and plant protection are the focus. Sowing cover crops with grasses is used or discussed in order to ward off pests. Grafting the vines is intended to prevent a renewed infestation by phylloxera. In the upper part of the vineyard, a pergola training form was also tested to reduce sunburn on the grapes.
Grape varieties and wine
On the Nußloch Wilhelmsberg, Grauburgunder is grown. From the grapes grown there, in 2024 a Grauburgunder was produced that was presented as Nußloch wine. Lemberger is documented in connection with wines that were tasted during a visit to the Wilhelmsberg in 2018.
