Teufelstein

Location and character

Teufelstein is a vineyard site classified as a single-vineyard site in Patersberg in the wine-growing region Mittelrhein. It belongs to the Loreley area, lies above the Rhine valley and is connected with views towards the Loreley. The former vineyard is located on a very steep slope on a long, stretched ridge.

Viticulture and history

The site has traditionally been known for the production of red wine. Teufelstein is documented as a former red wine site; in connection with preparations for BUGA 2029, a reactivation was proposed in 2022.

Planned reactivation

For the overgrown area described in the years 2022 and 2023, the clearing and restoration of the site were planned. In doing so, the dry stone walls, which are overgrown by bushes in many places, were also to be included. The reactivation concept considered red grape varieties that are adapted to changed climatic conditions and more resistant to fungal diseases.
