Tannacker

Location and classification

Tannacker is an officially recorded single vineyard site in the municipality of Endingen. It belongs to the Großlage Vulkanfelsen in the Kaiserstuhl area and to the Baden wine-growing region.

Field name and landscape

The name of the wine-growing site matches the Endingen field of Tannacker. Planning documents describe the site as a slope with several narrow terraces, separated from one another by steep embankments.

Usage

Vineyard areas have been documented for the plot of Tannacker. On the relevant areas, the vineyards were converted, as part of an ecological compensation measure, into extensively managed meadows and mesophilic ruderal vegetation.

Historical notes and wine

A publication from 1926 lists Tannacker as a field name with winegrowers’ cottages and recalls that some of the best Endingen vines once belonged to the town. The historical wine Endinger Tannacker Gewürztraminer Eiswein was produced from Gewürztraminer and was a sweet white wine made from ice wine; the 2001 vintage had 200 grams of residual sugar per litre and 11 per cent alcohol.
