Location and legal classification
Stephansberg is a legally defined single-vineyard site in the Baden wine-growing region of Badische Bergstraße. The vineyard site extends over the localities of Hohensachsen and Lützelsachsen, which belong to Weinheim, as well as the Weinheim vineyard name.
Relief, climate and soils
The planning area is located as a hillside area along the Bergstraße at the edge of the Odenwald. For the area, a mean annual temperature of 8 to 9 °C and an annual precipitation of 700 to 1,100 mm are given. Earlier and current viticulture use with terracing has been documented.
Geological subsoil
Above the exposed rock lies loess loam. The documented soils include pararendzina and parabrunisol; fine silt with clay components predominates.
Grape varieties and wine styles
Documented wines from the Hohensachsener Stephansberg include Weissburgunder, Riesling, Spätburgunder, Grauburgunder, Gewürztraminer and Lemberger. Dry quality wines are documented, as well as dry and, respectively, dry—finely off-dry Kabinett wines, dry Spätlesen as well as a sweet Gewürztraminer Spätlese. A 2024 Spätburgunder from the Lützelsachsener Stephansberg was vinified dry and matured in wooden casks; a 2025 Weinheimer Stephansberg is a Riesling.
