Steingrube

Location and classification

Steingrube is a single vineyard site in the Jechtingen district of Sasbach in the Kaiserstuhl, in the Baden wine-growing region Baden. The official vineyard sites directory assigns certain parcels of the Jechtingen cadastral area to the Steingrube single vineyard site.

Climate and subsoil

The vineyards are located in the warm Baden climate. Geologically, Steingrube is described as a former, cooled lava flow that was almost completely covered with loess during the last Ice Age.

Grape varieties and wine styles

On the loess-covered volcanic subsoil, light grape varieties are grown, especially Pinot varieties and Müller-Thurgau. For Steingrube, dry wines made from Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, as well as a Müller-Thurgau Kabinett, are documented.

Vinification

The wine producers of Jechtingen document for their vineyards, including Steingrube, a traditional vinification with modern cellar technology.
