Location
Steingerück is an officially recognised single-vineyard site in Groß-Umstadt in the Umstadt area of the wine-growing region Hessische Bergstraße. The vineyard lies to the north-east of the central settlement of Groß-Umstadt.
Aspect and soils
The vineyard plots are oriented from south-west to south-east. The soil is based on quartz porphyry; in the eastern part it is covered by deep loess. The documented area comprises around 13.5 to 13.6 hectares.
Grape varieties
Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Regent and Frühburgunder have been documented from Steingerück. For Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner wines from the single-vineyard sites Steingerück and Herrnberg, a character similar to that of Franconian wines is described.
Wine and ageing
A Riesling from the 2023 vintage from Groß-Umstädter Steingerück was offered as a quality sparkling wine made using traditional bottle fermentation.
