Location and classification
St. Julianenbrunnen is an officially registered single vineyard site in the cadastral district Guntersblum. It belongs to the Krötenbrunnen large-scale site and to the Nierstein area within the quality winegrowing region Rheinhessen.
Altitude and soil
The vineyard site lies at an altitude of about 85 to 90 metres above sea level. The documented soil type is sand, or more specifically rigosol. The deep, calcareous sandy soil was formed from calcareous dust and sand deposited during the ice ages.
The soil is well aerated, very permeable to roots, and has only a moderate ability to store plant-available water. Its warming capacity is described as moderate to good, and its nutrient supply as generally sufficient.
Wine style
The soil profile is associated with fruit-forward wines, a comparatively soft acidity, and a dense structure. After ripening, balance and complexity can develop. The soil is considered more suitable for red wine than for white wine.
Name and area data
The name of the vineyard site is derived from the Julianenbrunnen in the Guntersblum Kellerweg, which locally is also known as Giljebrunne. In the Rheinland-Palatinate vineyard register, as of 15 October 2024, St. Julianenbrunnen is listed under the site number 720515 with 37.7 hectares under vine.
