Soil
The soil consists of calcareous marl and/or Pelosol, formed from calcareous clayey deposits of the Tertiary sea. The nutrient content and lime content are high, the warming capacity is medium; rooting is considered difficult.
Wine profile and history
The soil profile is associated with robust, dense and substantial wines with moderate acidity and a creamy texture. Described are ripe fruit notes such as mango, apricot and honeydew melon; the style is more strongly fruit-driven and weighty than mineral-driven. The site was documented around 1300. The historical winery is described as a foundation for an altar of the St. George’s chapel in Partenheim.
