Location and classification
Sonnenplätzchen is an officially registered wine-growing site in the municipality and cadastral district of Obermoschel in the Nahe wine-growing region of Germany. The wine-sites register lists it as a single-vineyard site in the Nahetal area and within the Großlage Paradiesgarten. The official wine-site code is 511372.
Topography and soil
The site is described as relatively flat and exposed to the sun. Its position on the Lettweilerer Höhe allows the grapes to dry off particularly quickly in damp weather. The soil is given as weathered sandstone.
Cultivation and grape varieties
The flat, sun-exposed terrain is suitable for mechanised work in the vineyard and is described as having regular yields. In the Weingut Schmidt holdings, 0.6 hectares each are accounted for for Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay, which were planted in 2015. In total, 3.75 hectares are stated for these Obermoschel Sonnenplätzchen holdings. In addition, documented varieties include Pinot Gris, Bacchus, Kerner, Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau.
Documented wines
Documented wines from Sonnenplätzchen include a Bacchus wine with residual sweetness and a distinctive bouquet. Historically, wines made from Müller-Thurgau and Kerner are also evidenced, including a Kerner Spätlese.
