Site and Topography
The Sommerhalde is a vineyard site in Bombach in the growing region of Baden in Germany. It is oriented from the south-east via the south-west to the west, lies at around 240 to 300 metres above sea level and has slope gradients of 10 to 40 percent.
Climate and Soils
Cool night winds influence the freshness and the expression of the fruit in the grapes. The soils mentioned are shell limestone and loess; in addition, reddish, iron-bearing soils with shell limestone veins are described.
Vine Area and Grape Variety
The area classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE® comprises 11.06 hectares. For the cultivation by Bernhard Huber, more than 2.15 hectares are documented; the vines are 8 to 45 years old, and the yield is around 30 hectolitres per hectare. For the site, Spätburgunder is classified.
Wine from Bernhard Huber
The Sommerhalde GG by Bernhard Huber is a dry Spätburgunder from the Bombacher Sommerhalde. The wine is traditionally fermented on the pomace and matures for twelve months in French oak barriques.
