Location and classification
Silberberg is a single-vineyard site spanning multiple municipalities in the Nahetal area of the Paradiesgarten grosslage within the Nahe winegrowing region. The wine-growing site extends across the cadastral areas of Niedermoschel and Obermoschel in the Nahe. In the register of wine-growing sites, it is listed under number 511382.
Area and topography
In the 2024 register, Silberberg comprises 1.8 hectares in the cadastral district of Niedermoschel and 8.1 hectares in the cadastral district of Obermoschel, for a total of 9.9 hectares. The site is described as a steep south-facing slope at the entrance to Obermoschel and, respectively, as a steep slope between Niedermoschel and Obermoschel. The slope gradient is up to 63 percent.
Soil and cultivation
The soil consists predominantly of clay slate; for one parcel, grey slate is given. For cultivation, around 700 working hours per hectare are spent each year, with most work carried out manually. In areas that are difficult or risky to mechanise, a tracked tractor is used.
Vines and wine styles
In the Silberberg vineyards, Riesling and Spätburgunder are planted. For the Rieslings, fruity and spicy expressions are described. Both dry wines and Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese and Eiswein are recorded. The south exposure and the warming properties of the soil are associated with a rapid ripening and usually moderate acidity. The site is also known as Seelberg or Selberg; the name Silberberg is linked to earlier silver mining at the site.
