Location and landscape
The Schloßberg is a named vineyard site in Talheim within the wine-growing region Württemberg. The Talheim Schloßberg is described as a steep slope exposed to the sun and is assigned to the Keuper hill country.
Grape varieties and wine styles
From the site, wines made from Riesling, White Burgundy, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Samtrot, Spätburgunder, Schwarzriesling, Kerner and Tempranillo are documented. The range includes dry, off-dry and sweet white wines, dry and off-dry red wines, as well as off-dry rosé wines.
Classification
Wines from the Talheim Schloßberg are designated as Qualitätswein Württemberg; this includes red, white and rosé-coloured wines. A Kerner Auslese is designated as a site wine from Württemberg.
Cultivation and maturation
The vines are cultivated with reduced yields, targeted leaf work and, in premium selections, defoliation of the grapevine fruit zone; harvesting is carried out entirely by hand. White wines are fermented with cooling, while Spätburgunder and Lemberger are fermented on the pomace and matured in oak barrels. A Kerner Auslese from the site was fermented and matured in stainless steel. A Samtrot rosé from old vines shows aromas of red fruit and a fresh acidity.
