Location and classification
The Vitzenburger Schlossberg is an officially registered single vineyard in the Vitzenburg district of Querfurt in the wine-growing region Saale-Unstrut. The vineyards lie on the edge of the village of Vitzenburg directly along the Saale-Unstrut Wine Route. The steep slope falls southwards towards the Unstrut and comprises 2.3854 hectares of planted vineyard area.
Soil and vines
For the Riesling and Spätburgunder plots farmed by the winery Herr & Frau Lüttmer, Buntsandstein is documented as the subsoil. Growth, canopy management and fruit are monitored regularly and worked intensively by hand. Conventional as well as alternative methods are used, which are intended to preserve the natural balance in the vineyard.
Winemaking and vineyard ensemble
The wines are traditionally processed in the historic press house, from hand pressing to gentle bottling. The vineyard ensemble also includes an oval vineyard pavilion dating from the 18th century, the construction of which is dated to the rebuilding of Schloss Vitzenburg in the years 1764 to 1767.
