Location and classification
The Ingelheimer Schloßberg is a single vineyard site in the Kaiserpfalz area, Bingen district, and lies in the cadastral area of Ober-Ingelheim in Ingelheim am Rhein. The site is directly adjacent to Schloss Westerhaus; the name Schloßberg also refers to this estate.
Topography and soils
The Schloßberg lies at around 120 to 226 metres above sea level and is oriented to the east. Documented soils include loess over pararendzina as well as limestone over rendzina. The loess soils are deep, calcareous and loamy, store well-available water and allow for good root penetration. The limestone rendzinas are shallow to medium-depth, stony, sandy and strongly calcareous; their water storage capacity and ability for rooting are limited.
Wine style
On loess and pararendzina soils, slender, fresh wines are described with mild acidity and aromas of yellow fruits, apple, pear, peach and citrus fruits. The wines from limestone and rendzina soils are considered aromatic and mineral, with balanced acidity and notes of citrus fruits, apple, gooseberry, mango and passion fruit.
Grape variety
Spätburgunder is documented in the Ober-Ingelheimer Schloßberg by a local winery.
