Location and Topography
Der Rote Bur is a vineyard site in the eastern part of Glottertal and lies exclusively on the Eichberg. The vine plots facing south to south-west extend up to about 500 metres above sea level; the slopes have an incline of up to 70 degrees.
Climate and Soils
Protected plots have high levels of sunshine and heat storage. The soils consist of weathered gneiss.
Cultivation and History
The steep terrain requires extensive manual work; the vines are still cultivated by hand. Around 1820, August Ganter from the Rotburenhof planted Spätburgunder for the first time on the Rotburenhof. In 1958, the vines passed into the ownership of the local winegrowers’ cooperative; afterwards, the entire vineyard site was named Roter Bur.
Grape Varieties and Wines
For the Rote Bur, Spätburgunder, Gewürztraminer and Grauburgunder are documented. Linked to the site are Spätburgunder wines, including a Spätburgunder Weißherbst as well as dry Spätburgunder. The wines are classified under the quality categories Qualitätswein, Kabinett and Spätlese.
