Location and classification
Rosengarten is the legally designated single vineyard in the district of Gabsheim. It is located in the wine-growing region of Nierstein and belongs to the Großlage Domherr. The site is not contiguous, but is divided into several sub-areas.
Soils and wine character
The soils consist of loess and, respectively, pararendzina with calcareous, loess-derived material, as well as light loam and clayey silt. The deep-reaching profile is rich in lime, nutrient-rich and well suited to root development. It can store larger quantities of plant-available water.
The soil profile is associated with yellow-fruited aromas as well as notes of apple, peach, pear and citrus. The described wine character shows moderate structure, a mild acidity and a style that is accessible early on.
Name and history
The name Rosengarten may refer to natural rose growth and is also frequently associated with early medieval burial grounds. For Gabsheim, it is reported that there was probably a castle on the site from the late 12th century.
