Location and Classification
Rosengarten is recorded as a single site within the Großlage St. Rochuskapelle in the Bingen area, Rheinhessen. The site is located in the town district and cadastral district Bingen am Rhein and covers, according to the regional wine site database, around 21 hectares. In the official register of wine-growing sites for 2024, it is listed under the wine site code 710608. The name has already been documented in the Rosengarten in the 17th century.
Relief and Soil
The south to south-west exposure allows for long sunshine hours. Rosengarten lies at about 200 to 230 metres above sea level; a parcel-specific description mentions a south-facing high plateau with around ten percent slope. The soil consists of deep, gravel-rich, loamy sand with good aeration, a slight calcareous component, limited rooting depth and medium water-holding capacity. The starting materials are described as coastal sands, gravels and pebbles from tertiary marine deposits.
Grape Variety and Winemaking
For a parcel of the Riffel estate, Riesling is documented. The Binger Rosengarten Riesling described there from the 2024 vintage is a gently off-dry white wine with 23 grams of residual sugar and 8.7 grams of acidity per litre. The grapes from this parcel are hand-picked and selected; the vines were planted in 2017. The ageing process includes a short period of skin contact, fermentation with natural yeasts, cooling to stop fermentation at the desired level of sweetness, and ageing on fine lees.
