History and Cultivation
Wine growing in Ravensburg has been documented since the Middle Ages. The city’s vineyard area is cultivated by volunteers and members of clubs; the annual work involved is around 1,000 hours. Due to the steep site, care is carried out without mechanised cultivation. The city plot has been leased and looked after by the Bürgerstiftung Kreis Ravensburg since 2014, and since January 2024 this has been taken over by the Förderverein Burghaldentorkel e.V. Rauenegg is recognised as a vineyard site and is entered in the German vineyards register.
