Location and classification
The Pfarrgarten is a registered single vineyard site in Bruttig-Fankel in the wine-growing region Mosel, within the area of Burg Cochem, as part of the Großlage Rosenhang. The vineyard site lies between the Valwiger Herrenberg and Bruttig.
Terroir and cultivation
The Pfarrgarten is described as a steep vineyard site with terraces that are exposed to the sun. The soils consist of grey slate. Some of the vines are old and partly ungrafted-rooted. The term “Steillage” is provided for in German wine law for wine from vine plots with at least 30 percent slope.
Grape variety and wine styles
From the Pfarrgarten, Riesling is documented, including as the Bruttiger Pfarrgarten. Dry Kabinett, delicately off-dry Spätlese and noble-sweet Spätlese are recorded. A vineyard register from 1998 listed 7.7 hectares of planted vineyard area in the Pfarrgarten, entirely in the Bruttig part of the municipality.
