Pfaffenberg

Location and Classification

Pfaffenberg is the name of the vineyard area for the wine-growing region of Entringen, a district of Ammerbuch. The site is assigned to the wine-growing region of Württemberg and the Upper Neckar area.

Topography and Climate

The vineyards lie on the Keuper slope at the edge of the Schönbuch. This includes steep plots, which are farmed by hand. Wine growing in the Tübingen district is regarded as a marginal climatic location for viticulture.

Area and Viticulture

The vineyard area of the Entringen Pfaffenberg covers around 2.5 hectares. As no land consolidation (Flurbereinigung) took place, a large part of the original structure has been preserved. Dry stone walls and semi-dry grassland shape the vineyard plots.

Historical Evidence

A document dated 12 March 1565 records a Morgen of vineyard in the Pfaffenberg in Entringen. Before this, the vineyard had been linked, as a community, with payments to the Bebenhausen monastery and the local church.
