Location and classification
Pastorenberg is a single vineyard in the locality and cadastral district of Wallhausen in the Nahe. In the Rhineland-Palatinate wine-growing register, the site is listed under number 510229. The entry for 2024 shows 54.5 hectares of planted vineyard area.
Topography and cultivation
The south-facing steep slope lies in a wine-growing area described by the municipality as a region protected from the Hunsrück rain shadow by the Soonwald. The woodland keeps cold north-westerly winds away from the vineyards. A land consolidation involving new vineyard layout and cross-terracing helped preserve steep-slope viticulture; in the newly organised plots, direct mechanical cultivation using narrow-gauge tractors is also documented. In some steep sections, at Weingut Schmitt-Peitz, reading is still carried out by hand.
Documented wines
From Pastorenberg, dry Riesling as a Qualitätswein is documented, as well as Riesling as Spätlese and Auslese. Further documented bottlings include dry Chardonnay, delicately off-dry Pinot Blanc, Blue Spätburgunder, and a Rosé made from Domina.
