Location
The wine-growing region, described as a paradise, in Obersulm is documented as the Eschenauer Paradise. It lies between the districts of Eschenau and Eichelberg in the region Württemberg, on the north-west-facing slopes of the Hundsberg.
Landscape and geology
From the vineyard site, views extend over the Weinsberg Valley, the Breitenauer See and the Naturpark Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald. A documented vineyard wall in the Gewann Paradies, south of Eschenau, shows Gipskeuper.
Grape varieties and vinification
Scheurebe and Lemberger are recorded from the Eschenauer Paradise. A Scheurebe parcel was used to reduce yield by halving the grapes and by a selective, multiple hand harvest. The dry wine matured for nine months on fine lees in a 1,000-litre granite vessel; it is described as having citrus, peach, orange and herbal notes, as well as a creamy texture. A historic Lemberger from the site was aged in barrique.
Historical note
Historically, the grapes from Paradise had to be transported to the former von-Weiler press between Eichelberg and Eschenau, not to the presses in Eschenau.
